Creating
personal goals is very empowering and personally motivating. Do you
have well-formed, powerful, energising and exciting goals?
Goals must
have power in them, they must feel worthy of attainment, they must
empower the creator and they must be flexible. If these factors are
missing, the goal has every chance of not being
realised.
SMART goals are an easy and
concise way to turn desires into goals.
When you
have a desire for an outcome or a direction and you create a
powerful goal on which you focus your intention and attention, you
will be most likely to achieve that desire. When your goal
is SMART, you then create each of the
steps needed to reach your goal and this also allows you to
re-think the goal as your steps progress - if necessary or if it is
appropriate.
Below is the
format for creating SMART goals.
S -
Specific and Simple
M -
Measurable and Meaningful to You
A
- Achievable, As if Now, All Areas of Your Life
R
- Realistic, Responsible/Ecological
T
- Timed, Toward What You Want
An example
of a SMART goal is: Today is June 30th
2009 and I now have a golf handicap of 10.
This is
simple, specific, measurable, meaningful to me, achievable, covers
one area of my life, as if now, realistic, responsible, toward what
I want and timed. It's SMART.
Now it's
your turn: think about the personal goals you would like to
achieve.
All areas of
your life include:
- You
personally and your personal development
- Family -
immediate and close including children, siblings,
parents
- Recreation,
leisure, hobbies, sport, holidays
- Health,
fitness, overall mental and emotional wellbeing
- Relationships - partner or
spouse, significant business, close
friends
- Finances,
money, abundance, wealth
- Career,
profession, business, job
- You
in relation to the world at large, community, religion,
spirituality
Each of
these areas can be divided even further if it suits you.
If you
already create goals in each of the main areas of your life, well
done! You're on your way to achieving your dreams.
If you don't
